Can you go without an attorney?

Are there cases that happen where one would not need to hire a personal attorney and go it alone? Let’s find out.

If you live in a no-fault state, like Florida, the rules do not allow you to sue unless your injuries hit a certain level in severity or cost. It may not be pertinent that you seek representation; however, if there is a possibility that your injuries are serious enough – It would be a good idea to seek a personal attorney.

If you’re already receiving the maximum payout, it may not be necessary to hire a personal attorney. For instance if the dependent’s maximum insurance policy is $100,000 and you’ve been offered the same, it may not be pertinent to hire an attorney for any further compensation, unless the defendant has assets or money — In which case, you may be able to collect more to heal the damage that has been done. In this case, when a defendant does have additional assets or money, it would be a good idea to hire an attorney.

What about minor injuries? If you’ve been in a car collision and escaped with minor cuts, bangs, bumps and bruises you may feel that it is not necessary to seek a personal attorney. But — Think before you accept a settlement offer, minor injuries could turn into major ones. In this case, there would be nothing you could do, because you have given up any and all future claims arising from the incident by accepting this settlement. Furthermore, anytime you have major injuries you absolutely need to hire an attorney. They’ll make sure you receive the full spectrum of damages you are entitled to. They’ll negotiate to maximize your recovery. Also, insurers and defendants may take your claim more seriously once you are represented by an attorney.

Did you know you are entitled to pain and suffering damages? These are considered by a jury if your case goes to court. Always be sure to consult with a personal attorney, because any case that does not include pain and suffering are incomplete.

You may think that insurance companies are there to look out for you, but in many cases, these companies are directly at odds with your goals. Hiring a personal attorney is almost all off the time the right route to choose to protect you and collect what you are entitled to.

Lastly, you may be reluctant to hire an attorney due to costs. Don’t go it alone. Some attorneys work on a contingency basis, meaning, your personal injury lawyer will not be paid any money or legal fees unless you win your case or settle outside of court.
